Accumulating research, anecdotal evidence and our own intuition tells us that we’ve been “tamed” by material comforts and technologies and that we might benefit from more time outdoors, recalling basic aspects of our physical selves and elements of the Earth systems in which we are embedded.

Shinrin-Yoku or “Forest Bathing" is a restorative practice of nature immersion that supports physiological health and psychological well-being and is increasingly prescribed as an intervention for healing human relationships with the other-than-human world. Participants on these leisurely meanders are offered invitations to explore sensory experiences, engage the land with curiosity and creativity, and share reflections with each other along the way.

Jennifer Fendya is certified by the Association for Nature & Forest Therapy and has been guiding forest bathing walks in and beyond Western NY since 2017. She is a licensed psychologist and Sandplay therapist in private practice in Buffalo, an active member of the Climate Psychology Alliance and Climate Reality Project, and a practitioner of Miksang ("Good Eye") contemplative photography. She is excited to bring Forest Bathing to Lime Hollow.

Forest Bathing is NOT an aerobic, heat-producing activity so participants should check weather reports and dress appropriately for the elements and personal inclinations! Walks are designed for inclusivity and relaxation, so we will follow the most pleasurable path for all. Lightweight tripod camp stools will be provided.

This program is intended for individuals ages 13 and above. Participants aged 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
